title:   grid drawing

artist statement:

My inspiration for this piece is I felt like it looked like something I could draw well and have fun doing it. also, I also wanted to draw this specific drawing because the woman in it reminds me of my mother in certain ways.

The process I used to create my portrait was gridding my paper, sketching out the drawing, then adding the details like shape, line, texture, value, contrast, etc. after adding all of my details and was pretty much finished I went back and used a cotton ball to even out all of  my values

title: in the masters style painting

artist statement: my inspiration for this piece was it represented the zodiac sign Virgo, which is my sign and i wanted to represent myself. the process i used to create this was sketching it out, then copying my sketch onto a canvas then painting it in an expressionistic style.

title: cross contour critique

artist statement:

My inspiration for this piece was the whole vibe of a pineapple. If that makes sense. I like the shape of a pineapple, the leaves, and the little pointy things on the body of it. not to mention the color of a pineapple. Also, they are My favorite fruit.

the process I used to create My pineapple was first, tracing it onto My paper, adding all of the small details a pineapple has, then started to add My textures, I used bubbles on the leave and i did scribble on the body of it. then went back and did it again with ink. after I was done with the pineapple, the leftover blankness of the paper I splattered ink onto it.

title: watercolor landscape

artist statement:

My inspiration for this piece was I felt as if it was a piece I could do well on it. I enjoyed the color scheme of the sky and the colors of the water. I also really liked the palm trees.

I began by sketching out my piece, then adding the masking fluid to my clouds. then I began to add My watercolor paint onto my sky and water. let that dry then I added My details like my palm trees, hills, and my white splatters.

title: Polynesian Tiki sculpture

artist statement: My inspiration for this piece was the Polynesian Tiki God Kane. I did Kane because He is the creator of the universe. I liked his leaves on his head along with his fish bone mouth.
I started my sculpture by drawing out four sketches in my sketchbook  to plan out my sculpture from all 4 sides. Then I used the slab and coiling thingy to add on my extra pieces then smoothed those coils out and it made a very nice structure.

title: oil pastel texture piece

artist statement:

My piece shows a brown eye the eye is zoomed in and you can only see the eye and the eyebrow along with some skin.  I used realistic colors to create a sense of realness. To create the texture I used a variety of oil pastel techniques. i feel her eye color is the most intriguing part of my piece.

I used a bunch of different of oil pastel techniques to get my piece right. I used heavy pressure blends and  light pressure blends . I also used a blending stump to blend my pastel and get into small spaces like my eyelashes.

The big idea for my piece was to show a person with a beautiful eye showing that beauty is in the EYE of the beholder and as i was drawing out and coloring my piece, i remembered wise words my grandma once told me, she said that when you fall in love with someone, fall in love with their eyes, because they will never change unlike the rest of your body.

my goals for this artwork was to learn how to color with oil pastels because I've never used them before. Since i had never used them before i was having some trouble but my teacher always helps get me on track. after her help, i was pretty confident in finishing my piece.

my overall thoughts of this artwork was at first, it was a little difficult and i got frustrated a few times. but, at the end of the day, when my art was finished i realized it wasnt so bad after all. i just have to practice on my patience and my art skills.

title: art show piece

artist statement:

My piece depicts a macaw bird, meaning to represent freedom. I used unrealistic colors to create a calm and  To create the texture I used a variety of acrylic paint color. I fell like the colors made the art look better.

I used a variety of acrylic paint colors to get the results I was aiming to achieve. I used a lot of paint on my paint brush to make it expressionism and show my big brush strokes.

The big idea for my piece was to create a happy and free vibe to my piece which I feel when I see a bird flying by. I hope the viewer feels this emotion when seeing my piece as well. My work was inspired by expressionism and a macaw bird and its beautiful colors

My goal for this piece was to learn how to use expressionism and acrylic pant to represent freedom. I like to challenge myself to improve on areas I feel I am weak in. I think this piece helped me reach my goal because I feel it looks like expressionism

I learned a lot about expressionism . I experimented with different un realistic colors, This piece turned out pretty good especially considering i missed a couple days. I love how the colors so easily blended together. When using acrylic paint sometimes Ithe colors to blend before they dry so i had to get it done pretty fast while it was still dy but i managed.

title: foreshortening piece

artist statement:

My piece depicts a foreshortened railroad with a cabin and nature surrounding it. the title of my work would be something like moving away or traveling, because my piece is supposed to symbolize moving away from home to be on your own. I feel like you can tell my piece is watercolor.

I used watercolor paint to create my piece. with watercolor, you use a pallet of watercolor paint along with whatever size brush desired and a glass of water because you have to have water for watercolor.

What inspired my piece was the idea of foreshortening. my artwork is supposed to express that moving away and having to do things on your own one day is going to eventually happen. my piece doesn't have a particular emotion, it can make you feel different ways.

My goal was to create a sense of being free and going to do bigger things. yes, this piece helped me reach my goal because at first it wasn't looking too great but as i kept pushing to finish, it started looking better.

While creating this artwork, i learned that slow and steady is the key. you cant rush with art, because usually you'll end up with a not so good looking piece. yes, this is the piece i imagined it would be, considering i'm not very good at artwork, i feel like i did okay ESPECIALLY because my art teacher wasn't here a couple of days to help me and im pretty dependent for her help.
